Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Observations

Conditions below 2k’ were mostly snow free. Snow was spotty, then became deeper as we went. The snowpack consistency changed and started resembling storm snow more the closer we’re got to NTL. Once we got on the ridge the temperature got colder and the snow was much drier. I assumed it had been windy recently, based on the wind texturing starting to form on the ridge. The lack of cohesion between the new and old snow with bad steep runout made me extremely nervous so I decided to turn around. The snow was much sloppier on the way out BTL.

Advanced Observations

Observed Avalanche Problem #1:
Wet Loose
Comments:
Definitely a fair bit of wet loose conditions BTL. Saw evidence of days old D1 debris.
Observed Avalanche Problem #2:
Wind Slab
Comments:
Saw the makings of mini wind/storm slabs along the ridge. They were not bonded to the older crust at all.
