Observed Avalanches

Did you observe any avalanches?
Yes
Avalanche Type:
Hard Slab
Size:
Size 1: Relatively harmless to people
Elevation:
5200
Aspect:
SW
Comments:
Some dispute in our party on whether this was a natural or a remote trigger. About 1ft deep and 25 feet wide. Slope was small or this could’ve been much bigger.

Signs of Unstable Snow

Did you see shooting cracks?
Yes, Isolated
Did you experience collapsing or whumpfing?
No

Observations

Snow was stable in the trees but very wind loaded along the ridgeline at upper elevations. I don’t think I’ve ever seen snow blowing so hard. It was like a snowblower was behind the ridge blowing from the east.
