Occurred in a short (25 feet long) , narrow (15 feet wide) chute, roughly 35 degree slope angle, on lee aspect. Slide was triggered when skiier turned at far skier’s left side of chute, where it was thinnest. The slide propagated across the entire chute, with a crown depth of roughly 8 inches. As the chute was very small, the slide too was very small, with a runout of 25 feet.

Observations

Occurred in a short (25 feet long) , narrow (15 feet wide) chute, roughly 35 degree slope angle, on lee aspect. Specifically, the steep, rocky zone on the SE side of gunsight ridge, just above Jean lake.

Slide was triggered when skiier turned at far skier’s left side of chute, where it was thinnest.

The slide propagated across the entire chute, with a crown depth of roughly 8 inches.

As the chute was very small, the slide too was very small, with a runout of 25 feet.

Skiier skied out of the chute, immediately turning to avoid the slide runout and was unharmed.
