Observed Avalanches

Did you observe any avalanches?
Yes
Avalanche Type:
Wet Loose
Size:
Size 2: Could bury, injure, or kill a person
Elevation:
5000 feet (above tree line)
Aspect:
SW
Comments:
Assessing Ipsut pass in a protected area. Decided no due to wet loose risk and evidence of earlier activity. As we started to leave, a large avalanche released off a cliff band, climbers left of the route we would have taken. The runout stopped well before the tree line, but we witnessed debris roll into the Ipsut basin. 10am Sunday, light rain, 50 degree temps

Observations

Traveled from Ipsut campground mostly along the summer trail until we reached the base of Ipsut pass, where we assessed. Avoided the open meadow and drainage.

Media

Before the avalanche which released on climbers left near the cliff bands. There was a solo set of tracks that turned around within the slide path, 1-2 days old
