Comments:
At the waterfall along the pct on the way up to Kendall peak. The avalanche seems to have buried fresh tracks from yesterday, the slide may have occurred over night. We observed the debris around 3:45 am, and you could hear the running water, the snow was still incredibly soft and wet. There was no refreezing.
Did you see shooting cracks?
No
Did you experience collapsing or whumpfing?
Yes, Isolated
A thin, easily breakable crust appeared around 4300 ft. Looking up at Kendall there was tons of roller balls and wet loose debris much of which looked fresh. We opted to try and ascend the north ridge of Kendall peak up to the summit, but stopped 200 feet shy, fearful of potential wind slabs , as we heard a bit of whumpfing? The crust was also making for interesting skinning conditions. Skiing the avalanche debris felt like a blast compared to the crust once we reentered the trees. It literally felt like my first time ever skiing, regardless of our failure to summit and the poor skiing conditions it was a good morning. We made it back to the car by 9am.
