Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Observations

From Mirror Lake we climbed the Wind Creek trail to the top of the bowls. North and west facing aspects were stable but the temperature was rising and we chose lower angle slopes to be safe. Riding was great but conditions were changing quickly.

When we discovered the avalanche around 12:30 the temperature was near 40 degrees and it was an east facing aspect with plenty of sun exposure. The avalanche looked recent and coincided with the forecast. It appeared that the recent snow layer failed. Roller balls and other indicators of the possibility of a wet loose avalanche were observed. Temperature was near 40 degrees and it was an east facing aspect with plenty of sun exposure.

Upon noticing the avalanche we chose a safer route out of the bowl on a NW facing aspect and continued touring towards Skibowl to finish out the day.
