Comments:
Don't think it was as much aspect related...prob more feature related: micro ridge between thunder col and friendlies(friendlies being the little bumps on the ridge from thunder col to snow lake divide ridge). A little roll at the end of that micro ridge right above where the trees get taller, short 40deg but mostly 35/30. It looked suspect, somewhat wind affected and when first partner down skiied by where I had stopped noticed that the snow cracked.
I waited for other partner to spot me as well, dove in and with little oomph (not a hard cut) got a crack to quickly propagate sideways and wide. Very reactive, slid easy and fast. Not too far, prob less than 200' before landing on a bench into the forest, but a lot of snow.
Bed surface skied rather well, so I imagine the running surface was probably yesterday's graupel; which would also correspond with the depth of the slab (about a foot) and the amount of snow that fell/blew overnight. Debris pile was impressive, seemed to be about 5' deep.
No pics, sorry (I like em too but didn't have camera)
Otherwise snow was great (trees) but didn't venture into the alpine
