Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

Did a small column test and found a very reactive sun crust about 5" deep under recent soft snow on the SE aspect at 5900 ft. We got a sudden planer right after isolating the column, 0 taps. Snow below this crust didn't show any signs of instability.
We also noted some minor cracking around skis and areas of wind drifted snow, so decided to stick with low-angle terrain.
