Zone or Region:
Billy Creek, Lost Peak
Did you observe any avalanches? Yes
Size 2: Could bury, injure, or kill a person
Many recent (likely past few days) loose wet slides size 1 to size 2 on south and west faces between 4,000ft-5,000ft. Most had run down to ground in shallow snow pack, and were about the size of the one in the picture.
We traveled in Drake Creek, Upper Lost River, and Billy Creek to Lost Peak. Snow pack was hard or breakable crust up to ~6,500ft on east and south aspects. Between 6,500ft - 7,800ft was several inches of powder on hard crust. No crust on north aspects above 6,500ft. Then 7,800ft - 8,500ft scoured down to bare rock on Lost Peak.
