Did you trigger any avalanches?
Yes
Was it intentional?
Yes
Avalanche Type:
Wet Loose

Size 1: Relatively harmless to people
Elevation:
near treeline

Comments:
approach & descent from iconic ice climb. snowpack was rotten - inconsistent post-holing. we avoided the Funnel because the ice looked rotten and it was shedding continuously as the day warmed. climbed Hubba Hubba Left, but abandoned second pitch because it too was shedding steadily. on descent we intentionally triggered numerous small wet loose slides so we could ride them downhill and avoid the leg-breaker post holing.

Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Observations

on ascent we observed debris piles beneath the Funnel, guestimated thirty feet deep. we avoided the Funnel because the ice looked rotten, and it was shedding steadily & getting direct sun. climbed Hubba Hubba Left but abandoned second pitch because it too was shedding progressively larger ice chunks. on descent we intentioally triggered numerous small wet loose slides so that we could ride them downhill and avoid the leg-breaker post holing
