Comments:
Witnessed a natural avalanche that fell just on top of the bolted climbs on the NE face of Bryant Peak at about 11:05AM. The size was roughly D1 and the start zone was about 4300'. We witnessed it slide from a few hundred meters away, so we're unsure on slope angle and snow properties where the slide happened.
None reported
On the snow lake divide approach, what was supposed to be a quick shovel tilt test had the column fail while isolating it on what looked like graupel about 35cm down. The site was at about 3800', facing about 170 degrees, and had about a 35 degree slope angle. Hand shear tests and test slopes up to that point weren't remarkable.
We left that area and went to Draft Dodger/Big Trees where we witnessed what we believe was a naturally released avalanche off the NE face of Bryant Peak at about 11:05AM (roughly D1, start zone was about 4300'. We witnessed it from afar, so unsure about slope angle, weak layer, bed surface, etc.)
