Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

Observation was recorded in the Big Trees Zone of the Commonwealth Basin.

Acceptable stability found. Stomped/jumped on multiple convexities without any movement - which was surprising as snow from 02.27.21 was more reactive. Hand shear testing along our route also correlated with this information

Jumped on an unsupported convexity (Pillow Feature) at approximately 4400' at an Eastern aspect , fracturing was observed however snow did not move on its own until pulled.

At treeline signs of wind scouring/deposition could be found, however we did not venture above 4900' today.
