Southern slopes heated up today in the sun. Low in the trees I got a small ( 15 ft x 6") slab to release, approximately 35 degrees. Rollerballs very easy to create. Higher up on our last run, NTL we were producing rollerballs, but no slab activity.
Did you observe any avalanches?
Size 3: Could bury and destroy a car, damage a truck, destroy a wood frame house, or break a few trees
Multiple large crowns on various northern aspects on chair. One in particular looked quite big and wrapped around terrain features.
Signs of Unstable Snow
Traveled south aspects from 3200-5200. Rain crust lower down with 4" made for tricky skinning conditions. Depth and quality of snow improved significant above 4500. Graupel observed all the way to to 5000. Snow was starting to glom up in the upper elevations by the time we left.
Observed Avalanche Problem #1:
Southern slopes got a little cooked today. Potential for a sun crust to form before this new snow
