Triggered Avalanches

Did you trigger any avalanches?
Yes
Was it intentional?
No
Avalanche Type:
Dry Loose (Sluff)
Size:
Size 1: Relatively harmless to people
Elevation:
3800’
Aspect:
NE
Comments:
Numerous loose dry sz 1s on steep test slopes dropping into lower East Trees off Wright Knob. Each loose dry would run quickly and the length of the terrain feature, and would readily entrain the upper 10cms of surface snow.

Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Observations

Avalanche Obs: See above

Snowpack Obs: Did numerous hand shears, on a S aspect above Source Lake (on the Source Lake Apron). RP results were observed down approx. 55cms in a suspected storm density change. Upper 30cms F hardness snow, gradually becoming more dense with depth. We did not dig, so the depth/distribution/reactivity of the 1/13 FC/MFcr & 2/1 FC/MFcr is unknown. We noticed a small wind-loaded slope just above Snow Lake on a NE facing micro-feature near Wright Knob (approx. 4000’), with 10cms of 4F- slab sitting atop the F hardness snow below. Wind loading & effect was isolated, but reactive in the few spots we found it. Boot pen: 75cms

Weather Obs: Clear and cold. L winds from the E at Snow Lake. No blowing snow. Scattered cloud cover.

Overall was an awesome day out of keeping it conservative and enjoying some epic pow skiing!
