Left Deer Park Rd at 5200ft and ascended W aspect slope. Test along ascent route at 5480ft showed ECTP 12@40. time 1230; temp 29deg. Sliding surface was a firm crust. Once we reached south facing slopes passing 5600ft, we experienced widespread whumpfing and isolated cracks. We decided to retreat....tails tucked.
It was notable that the upper (usually scoured) south slope of Blue Mountain was as well covered as I’ve ever seen it. All snow from the recent storm. Finally some low wind precip.
