Signs of Unstable Snow

Did you see shooting cracks?
No
Did you experience collapsing or whumpfing?
Yes, Isolated

Observations

In open north facing ridge (no trees) at 4,500 ft, snow layer was significantly thicker (~1 foot) and wet and was consolidating easily into layers that seemed easy to slide on the icy layer underneath. When crossing a 35 degree slope, roller balls the size of large beach balls rolled down effortlessly.

Small isolated collapsing was also observed nearby on flat surfaces (less than one foot radius underneath skis).

Media
