Wind slab with 30 cm crown triggered above road to Artists Point. Slid on rain crust.
Also caused cracking on same aspect slightly lower elevation. Shooting crack about 40 ft. No whumphing.
Did you see shooting cracks?
Yes, Isolated
Did you experience collapsing or whumpfing?
No
Traveled to Artists Point. Dug a quick pit on E aspect. No wind loading on this aspect. Main problem was dry loose sliding on the last rain crust about 30 cm deep. Did see wind loading on NE aspects.
Snowed all day and on our way down I skied over a convex rollover on a NE aspect and caused shooting cracks running about 40 ft. Tucked my tail and skied back into the resort.
We also skied Swift Creek which had much more stable snow on all aspects, but we caused sluffing on steeper aspects. Beware of terrain traps in the creek drainage.
