Signs of Unstable Snow

Took advantage of the weather to get up to 7,000’ on Mount Baker to see what’s going on up high. In stark contrast to the very large natural avalanche cycle in the Bagley Lakes zone, we saw zero natural avalanches from this last storm cycle. Only a few small crowns on steep convex rolls at ridge top from perhaps 3-4 days ago (all filled in and barely discernible). HS in Grouse was variable. Completely stripped of snow at high points and between 95-190cm in more loaded features. Riding conditions were quite good, but lots of evidence of wind affect from high winds. Seems most the snow blew to Canada and we’ll have to wait until the border opens to ask for it back. Widespread SH observed in the lower basin by the creek, but this quickly disappeared once we broke out into the open (around 5,000’).
