Observations

Skiied in the "backcountry" of the Hurricane Ridge area on 1/3/21. While at the parking lot getting ready, I placed our skis and poles into the snowbank and immediately the first foot of snow slid right off the top. We skinned up alongside the rope top and headed to the East aspect that leads down into the Poma lift. Lots of sign of natural soft slab releases on very low angle terrain <20 degrees that did not run very far. The slopes were heavily wind loaded and snow was waist deep in areas with skis on. We were able to ski the east aspect of the ridge down to the Poma lift multiple times, starting in the trees at first and moving further out into the open slide path. Snow remained stable throughout the day as did the temperatures.
