Comments:
Skier-triggered D1 storm slab on a small terrain feature below tree line. 10-12" depth (new snow since 1/29) 15-20ft propagation (extent of small terrain feature). I suspect this layer may be active as it's loaded this weekend.
Did you see shooting cracks?
Yes, Isolated
Did you experience collapsing or whumpfing?
No
In addition to the small storm slab on E aspect in the Cutthroat Creek watershed, I observed isolated shooting cracks on NE aspect at 6400' in the Porcupine Creek watershed. These were at a depth consistent with the E aspect storm slab (not isolated to the 24hr storm snow).
Weather: Snowing S1 most of the day, light SW winds switched midday to moderate SE wind at ridge-tops with stronger SE gusts and moderate snow transport. High 20'sF throughout the day.
