Observed Avalanches

Did you observe any avalanches?
Yes
Avalanche Type:
Soft Slab
Size:
Size 3: Could bury and destroy a car, damage a truck, destroy a wood frame house, or break a few trees
Elevation:
6000'
Aspect:
NE
Comments:
Crowns from the Solstice avalanche cycle are clearly visible, in steep terrain Near and Above Treeline, throughout the watershed. Now several days old, these obvious indicators of widespread avalanche activity will become slowly obscured by incoming light snowfall and wind transport. Steeper starting zones, especially in the alpine and near ridgecrests, showed the most-consistent evidence of avalanche activity, while the more subtle mid-elevation meadows exhibited activity with more-isolated, nuanced distribution.
In all cases, the grayish tone of the bed surfaces, discernible at a distance, indicate failure at the Dec.8 Crust interface.
