Signs of Unstable Snow

Did you see shooting cracks?
Yes, Isolated
Did you experience collapsing or whumpfing?
No

Observations

Nice sunny day at loup loup area. We chose to skin up near Pole Pick Mountain as uphill travel is closed in the ski area.

We noticed a nice crust on all aspects and very prominent surface hoar especially in sparsely treed areas near 4000’. We noticed some cracks near that elevation where it was previously wind swept. Right below the surface hoar crust would be softer snow. It was pretty cold throughout the day, hovering around 20F.

Media

Large surface hoar that was present even as the sunny afternoon passed
Small cracks in windswept areas
