Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

Dug test pit at 4,800’ on NNW aspect in an area with no sign of wind disturbance. Found 4mm surface hoar directly on 12/9 rain crust, buried 72cm down. Did not get propagation on this layer in our ect. (EctN11@10cm and EctN15 25cm down.)

Finding SH under a nice thick slab combined with recent large avalanches was enough to keep us out of avalanche terrain.
