Observed Avalanches

Did you observe any avalanches?
Yes
Avalanche Type:
Soft Slab
Size:
Size 2: Could bury, injure, or kill a person
Elevation:
Alpine
Aspect:
NE
Comments:
Observed evidence of two large (D2) natural avalanches on N and NE aspects of Table Mountain that I assume ran sometime during the last storm cycle (red lines on photo roughly demarcate crown lines of both avalanches). Skied low angle, sheltered terrain on NE and E aspects and the ski quality was fantastic.

Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Observations

Observed 3-4mm surface hoar on the snow surface up to at least 4800 ft on N and E aspects (did not travel on other aspects). Surface hoar was not limited to shady slopes, and was still present on a low angle (~10 - 20 degree) slope at 2pm. Also observed 1-2mm facets at the snow surface at 4200ft.
