Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Observations

Dug two pits to refresh some pit skills at 5900ft on a east southeast facing slope. Conditions for the day were sun wind and some small bouts of rain. We found wet saturated snow from the previous night. We thought freezing level must have stayed higher up on the mountain as we found no firm harden snow. Just heavy and wet. From what the pits told us the snow pack is settling nicely. Only thing we were watchful is the rain crust 65cm down. Couldn’t get it to fail with column tests but we did when we pulled from behind with our shovels. Something to watch for in the next cycle.

Media

First pit, single finger for the whole pack except for the rain crust from early in November at around 65cm down.
Column tests ended up in mush
