Observations

Goal was summit of red mountain Via west face. Hand sheer test at ~5000’ showed no signs of instability. At tree line observed blowing snow and wind textures. Turned around when kick turns began to cause shooting cracks.
skied down to about tree line, where skier triggered slab avalanche (described above) from above. No one caught or injured.
