Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

At about 5,200’ on a NE, windloaded aspect on the approach to little Switzerland we heard and felt a loud significant and loud collapse in the snowpack. A quick hand pit revealed a crust facet combo about 8 inches down. Heard another collapse that echoed off the rocks ahead about 40ft farther. We experienced a similar but less dramatic whumpf later on a SW aspect at around 5,800’.
