Triggered Avalanches

Did you trigger any avalanches?
Yes
Was it intentional?
Yes
Avalanche Type:
Wet Loose
Size:
Size 1: Relatively harmless to people
Elevation:
5300
Aspect:
NE
Comments:
Top layer of snow slowly released in a somewhat cohesive manner on a steep convexity on a firm crust bed. Only 3-4 inches deep but did propagate a few feet (limited). Observed shooting crack and then, given low consequence terrain, intentionally triggered small slide. New snow was heavy.

Signs of Unstable Snow

Did you see shooting cracks?
Yes, Isolated
Did you experience collapsing or whumpfing?
No

Observations

Initially there was heavy (cream cheese) snow followed by noticeable warming around 2 pm and snow became more dense. Sun briefly popped out at times, but visibility was largely poor. Light winds out of the E, really only noticeable on a ridge. Observed rollerballs later in the day and top layer of snow easier to trigger small wet slides later in the day. As skinned out , lower elevations held wet snow and it was also coming down as wet snow.

Shooting crack, noticed before triggering small slide in next photo.
Can observe small crown, only a few inches deep on a firm bed.
The snowman shared my sentiments about the wet (rain) snow later in the day.
