Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

Thin overcast, west wind ~ 20 @ 270, East aspect, 6400’ ski penetration 7cm, boot 10cm, on top ofMLK crust, HS 130. Heavily sun affected snow in trees, sun on snow in trees dripping on snow, in the open light sun crust. A pit revealed 15-20cm of snow on MLK crust. That crust is really several layers with the weakest being the lowest. Resistant shovel shear on lower level of MLK. Column showed durability, failure occurred on 24, buried surface hoar still visible, but un reactive in this pit.
