Our goal was to ski Boundary Basin from the top of the ridge, however at about 6180’ on the NE aspect of the bowl we identified a 4-5” hard slab layer under about 3” of fresh snow. Under the slab appeared to be a fairly deep layer of unconsolidated powder. After this we turned and sought different terrain.
Later, skiing the NW facing “Eagle Bowl,” we didn’t find any more signs of the slab, instead we encountered mostly protected powder with isolated (and very light) wind deposits.
