On a 2 day trip (sat-sun) to the snowfield zone we saw crowns from recent large slab avalanches on steep N aspects high in the alpine. See 2 pics: one on a peak just to the east of Snowfield, one of colonial N face. Hand shear tests on colonial (7100’, N aspect) confirmed presence of a ~12” deep stiff cohesive wind slab on the surface; stubborn to trigger.
Most of the snow surfaces in the alpine were wind buffed but fun skiing was still found; great weekend to be in the alpine; cold but unlimited viz on Sunday
