Observations

Traveled from Heather Meadows to Austin Pass. Very poor visibility throughout our tour. Moderate winds, mostly from the S and SW. Moderate-heavy snowfall. There was anywhere from 1/2" to 2' of snow over the rain crust. Wind was actively redistributing new snow, tracks were being completely covered in less than 20 minutes. The snow that was being redistributed did not feel stiff or slabby when we traveled through it. Hand shears were mostly non-planar and broke 2-4" above the rain crust. We did not enter avalanche terrain, we did not see any avalanches, experience any shooting cracks or whumpfs. Stoked for the snow to have returned!

Media

We observed lots of new cornices on mostly north through east aspects.
