Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

In the morning, new storm snow was unconsolidated on nearly all slopes (with the exception of wind loaded slopes near ridgeline, where we saw shooting cracks @ 5600' N). By early afternoon, as temps warmed, snowfall became very wet and heavy; hand shears started to show stiffer slabs were forming in the new layer of snow.
