Signs of Unstable Snow

Did you see shooting cracks?

Observations

Ran into snow near and above treeline. Presumably from past slides. Sun exposed aspects (particularly the south ones) were very supportive. North facing ones were weaker zipper crust over faceting snow (4F-like strength). Boot pen was anywhere between 3” and 1’.
Hair hoar ice on trees was fascinating. It suggested that wind fetch from the last snowfall was blown from southerly winds.
Gusts were strong today; it felt like it was in the mid-teens with windchill.
