Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

Surface hoar was large and plentiful anywhere sheltered up along Smithbrook Road and the north side of Lichtenberg today, Saturday, Dec. 17th. The hoar crystals were quite large, over half an inch, and nearly everywhere, particularly in the trees and anywhere shaded. While that was fine while we were out there today (the skiing was lovely on medium-density powder,) this could be cause for concern once buried by any new snowfall after today.
