Triggered Avalanches

Did you trigger any avalanches?
Yes
Was it intentional?
Yes
Avalanche Type:
Soft Slab
Size:
Size 1: Relatively harmless to people
Elevation:
4800 ft
Aspect:
N
Comments:
About a foot of relatively unconsolidated snow sitting on top of a hard rain crust. Slabs were about a foot deep (depth of the soft snow above the rain crust) and slid easily given the right conditions. This one was purposefully triggered on a very small slope on a convexity.

Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Observations

Conditions lined up with what we expected going out for the day. The new soft snow was easy to trigger on top of the hard rain crust. We generally avoided steep terrain and skied carefully, looking out for significant convexity. The snow pack here has gained significant depth and made for fairly carefree skiing in terms of sharks laying underneath. Little to no wind transport was seen up to when we headed out around noon at which point the wind was turning up.
