Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Observations

We approached via Yodelin. We made our way up the SW Face. On the bench around 5000' we did take a more detailed observation around 1030. Tests fractured on the new snow interface which had a crust. It would break and slide on the layer below the crust which had some preserved stellars. This was only down 4cm but deeper in areas that collected snow. We experienced the same reaction a little further down (27cms) on another interface without a crust.

Along the ridge, it did have some wind effected snow. We did not experience any cracking or wind slabs along the way.

On our exit from Lake Valhalla, the snow became very heavy due to the sun coming out for a few hours midday. This made for less enjoyable skiing than the non-solar aspects.

Media

We had large pin wheels develop on the way out from the lake.
This is one of the ski cuts we did on the north aspect chute.

Advanced Observations
