Leveraging the roof avy, to pass along general concerns of a SkiBowl employee in the parking lot: “Be careful out there. Lots of snow in a short amount of time [in a ski area that is now closed and hence no longer avy controlled, inferred]. The roof release off of a map kiosk along the ridge occurred shortly after the sun came out briefly. Obviously, a unique situation. That said, while we didn’t notice any indicators ourselves, another skier we saw said he heard whumphing at one point, “but things felt stable otherwise”. 2’ of new snow since the last avy mitigation of this now closed ski area is definitely reason for caution. The line we chose to ski we treated as potential slide risk despite many other tracks. Skied the area w beacons on and practiced good spotter skiing technique to be safe. Weather was intermittent snowing that became fairly heavy after our day ended at around 4pm while grabbing a bite in Government Camp. Noticed winds strong enough for transport from both the NE and the SW at different times during the tour. While we noticed no whumping or cracking or natural slides ourselves, we stuck to the Ski Bowl’s defined Uphill Access road for our ascent (all others we saw took a more direct and exposed route to the ridge). See this link to understand the safe and compacted - albeit somewhat indirect - road ascent option now that the ski area is closed. https://www.skibowl.com/directions-1st-time-visitors/uphill-policy.html
