Observed Avalanches

Did you observe any avalanches?
Yes
Avalanche Type:
Dry Loose (Sluff)
Size:
Size 1: Relatively harmless to people
Elevation:
7000ft - 8300ft
Aspect:
E
Comments:
We observed many small dry loose sluffs on Sunday and Monday on steep SE to N faces at 7000ft - 8300ft. We saw two crowns that appeared to be recent isolated wind slab from a distance (see pictures) on steep SW and steep SE aspects. The only windslab we encountered was an isolated pocket near a ridge crest at 8,000ft on a SE aspect.

Lower in Devore Creek between 2000ft - 3500ft on SE aspects we encountered debris from a dozen large avy slides, perhaps a week or more old.

Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Observations

We found 8-10 inches of fresh snow on top of the 2/19 crust on N, NE, E, SE, S aspects between 6000 - 8300ft in the upper Devore creek drainage in Bird Creek to Devore and Tupshin. The new snow was generally well-bonded to the 2/19 crust and we did not experience any shooting cracks. We went on one west aspect above 8,000ft and snow was scoured to rock.
