Triggered Avalanches

Did you trigger any avalanches?
Yes
Was it intentional?
No
Avalanche Type:
Soft Slab
Size:
Size 1: Relatively harmless to people
Elevation:
5000'-5500'
Aspect:
NE
Comments:
We triggered one small avalanche and saw several new but unobserved small avalanches associated the new storm slab. All observed avalanches were soft slabs consisting of new snow, triggered at convexities in the terrain, with limited propagation. They also happened within about 30 minutes, on the same ENE aspect, near treeline where we observed blowing snow and inreasing solar radiation.

Signs of Unstable Snow

Did you see shooting cracks?
Yes, Isolated
Did you experience collapsing or whumpfing?
No

Observations

We traveled to a high point of 5800', favoring NE through SE aspects. We saw small storm slabs releasing on the old snow interface (widespread MFcr buried 2/19). Snowpack observations indicated reactive SH on the MFcr on isolated ENE terrain. We suspect a brief warming period today made the storm slab more reactive around 10-12 today.
