Observed Avalanches

Did you observe any avalanches?
Yes
Avalanche Type:
Wet Slab
Size:
Size 2: Could bury, injure, or kill a person
Elevation:
Approx 8,000
Aspect:
S
Comments:
Same avalanche reported in the 1-17-21 forecast as a wet loose. We observed what seemed to be a wet slab assumed to be triggered by cornice fall. Crown was ~2 feet deep on average and broke about 600 feet across the slope, wrapping around rocks. Estimated run of 1500 feet. We would definitely classify this as at least d 2.5 if not 3, for sure bigger than 2.

Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Observations

There were strong winds, broken clouds throughout the day, warming and snow softening. Occasional rollerballs and rockfall. Sparse rain crusts on north aspects.
