Near freezing temperatures in the Paradise area today brought 4 inches of heavy (13%) and moist powder by 1500. It was moderately snowing all day with a snowfall rate of S1.6 at 1300. Winds were calm to light throughout the day, allowing for decent visibility and travel conditions considering the snowfall
Dug hasty pit on SW aspect below Panorama Face 6300'. HS 100 cm. ECTN13 down 21 cm and CT17 SP down 22 cm on thin crust/facet sandwich. CT24 BRK down 41 on MLK Crust. New storm snow is bonding moderately well to supportable crust below.
Terrain above tree line was wind affected with scoured slopes, actively forming cornices, and pillowed features. Visibility was poor and these features were hard to assess.
Wind sheltered mid elevation trees held enough soft snow for good skiing conditions with reasonable visibility. Open slopes had flat light and made for difficult terrain reading while skiing.
Low elevation steep slopes received warmth and rain and produced sizable rollerballs and pinwheels.
