Temperature was 32 degrees F at 6000 feet; 33 degrees at 5000 feet. Snow levels were at 5000 feet with snow above 5000 and rain below. At 6000 feet, it was snowing about 1 cm per hour at 2 pm. Winds were generally calm to light with gusts up to 15-20 mph from the west. Active snow transport was observed. Visibility was low and the sky was obscured.
Several layers were observed on east-facing wind-loaded slope at 6000 feet near treeline. A 15 cm layer of dense snow was observed above a 5 cm ice crust. Below this crust was a softer layer 30 cm thick, and below this layer was solid ice. All layers were heavy and very well bonded together. Several areas of roller balls were observed on east-facing solar aspects at 5700 feet.
