Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

We travelled up the USFS Rd to the top of Skyline Ridge. As we travelled up snow was falling at ~2cm/hr and winds were calm. We stopped short of the true summit in order to dig a pit on the western shoulder of the ridge, just on the S side of ridgeline. We decided to ski the S to SE section of the slope on the way down through trees and found the snow to be quite lighter, drier, and of better ski quality than we expected, especially compared to ski quality in a similar area the day prior. We would attribute this to the lower temperatures on the 12th than on the 11th. We did not observe any Class 1 signs of instability, though loading occurred at a rate that increased throughout the day around or possibly above ~2cm/hr at certain points.
