Observations

Crystal Lakes zone was in the sun all morning unlike the resort, where low clouds hung around a bit longer. Winds were moderate to strong out of the West, keeping temps cooler near ridgetops. Surface conditions ranged from supportable crust to breakable, to dry powder on shaded slopes.

We found fairly reactive 3-6 inch wind slabs on all aspects near ridgetops. These were sliding on a variety of surfaces including sun crusts and new snow, but did not propagate widely. We did not do any profiles or tests. Active roller balling near rocks on solar aspects by late morning, but we did not observe any wet loose avalanches— we finished around noon.
