Comments:
Numerous size 2-2.5 windslabs observed in surrounding alpine basins, likely associated with warming and significant storm snow accumulations. Unconfirmed if the Jan.13MFcr is in play in the local alpine, but suspect more-ephemeral instabilities. See photo.

Observations

We traveled south and east aspects, between 3000' and 6000' today.
The recent warmth and light rain had effected snow surfaces up to about 4500' locally. Ski pen increased substantially above that elevation, with deeper travel through 40cm storm snow. We experienced numerous collapses while skinning between 4500'-5500', prompting us to weave a conservative skin track through meadows and white barks.

Profiles on south and east aspects showed the following:
HS: 185cm (solar) and 250cm (east)

Jan.30 MFcr down 35-40cm; CT's yielded hard, resistant planar results on both aspects; small rounding facets observed over the solar crust; east aspect crust very thin, weak

Jan.24 interface down 55cm on east, totally indiscernible on south; not a layer of concern locally

Jan.13 MFcr (and associated facets / laminates) down 50cm on the south, 75cm on the east, 15cm thick in both cases
CT's produced hard but sudden results on both aspects; SC within laminates on the south / SP above crust on the east; ECT's unremarkable, showing propagation unlikely
Nonetheless - this layer continues to drive decision-making and terrain selection within this valley, with the greatest uncertainty around the Near Treeline elevation band. Low likelihood, high consequence. Suspect similar structure in neighboring valleys.

The stellar day afforded views into nearby alpine basins, where numerous size 2-2.5 windslabs ran on Feb.1-2.
