Observations

There is some faceting going on under the old crust. I have seen this on all aspects and elevations between 3000' and 5000' this past weekend. The crust is weaker as elevation increases. Once you punch thru it, faceted rounds can be observed about 5cm below the surface. At 3800', the facet layer was about 5cm thick. The crust produced a hollow sound when tapped with a whippet.
