Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

We skied the Chair Peak Circumanivation today. On the north aspects, we found 4-9" of new dry snow (depth of the new increased greatly with elevation) relatively well bonded to the very moist to wet snow below. On solar aspects, we observed several Loose wet avalanches release from steep rocky features to size 1.5 and running a few hundred feet. We were able to kick off several small loose-wet avalanches the width of our skis sliding on this interface on slopes that had been receiving solar input. Underneath the most recent snow, the very moist to wet snow extends down at least a meter in the NTL and lower ATL and is still very saturated and very weak. We did not see any evidence of wind-redistributed snow in the areas we traveled. We did see several glide cracks and of course a LOT of avalanche debris on all aspects from the weekend's rain event.
