Comments:
I was skiing down the main bowl of Roaring Ridge today. On the uptrack definitely felt some moderate instability but noted that the slab itself was perhaps only 5-6” deep and so still decided to ski it. I triggered a small slide that did not carry me; I was able to ski off to the side of it.
Did you see shooting cracks?
Yes, Isolated
Did you experience collapsing or whumpfing?
No
The light, fluffy dry powder layer on top is not well-bonded to the crust. Small slabs failed on multiple aspects with hand pit tests. I observed old rollerballs suggestive of wet loose avalanches in the past week, but this particular aspect appeared to be staying cold today and I did not see further evidence of new wet loose avalanches.
