Two backcountry skiers traveled into Elk Bowl. As they traveled in the upper sections of the bowl, 1 skier triggered a slab avalanche that caught, carried, and partially buried them. Fortunately, they were able to self-extricate and dig themselves out. According to the other skier, the person caught hit a dead tree at a slow speed and sustained injuries to their elbow and ribs.
